WHAT WE DID
ISWR approached Minuco to design the interface for their upgraded online database. The new design would be launched with a host of additional features, so while searching such a vast database can be intimidating for a first-time user, our design also had to re-educate existing subscribers.
We began the design process by forming a comprehensive understanding of how this complex product functioned. We could then scrutinize potential user journeys and construct wireframes / interactive prototypes accurate to the user's requirements. The prototypes also enabled us to gauge the pace and flow at which a user would navigate the system.
Graphically speaking, our design focusses on clarity of information while trying to bring a sleek contemporary edge to an advanced database running off Microsoft Excel.
Another design consideration was that the interface had to function on an tablet device. The mass of information and functionality on display was challenging but we paid close attention to sizing, layout and introduced slidable elements to maximise the space available and create a digestible and uncluttered design.
The IWSR (International Wine & Spirit Research) quantifies the global market for alcohol by volume and value, and provides insight into short-term and long-term trends. They cover 125 countries in detail, with a further 9 in summary. Globally, the IWSR database holds volume records on almost 19,000 brand lines.
Their findings and forecasts are presented in multiple formats: a magazine, summary reports and a browsable online database. Subscription to the latter provides detailed and customisable analysis of the database useful to investors, speculators and market research departments.
